School and golf course in eminent domain dispute over 50 acres

In Pennsylvania, a school and a pair of owners of a nearby golf course are locked in a dispute over eminent domain laws, and they will soon go to court to have the matter settled. The school has claimed that they need the property, and the owners of the golf course have disputed that claim. This puts it all in the judge's hands, with those on the school's side saying they are confident that a decision can be found that is fair and just.

Bill proposes rezoning for Drexel University development

Two years ago, at Powelton Ave. and 38th St. in Philadelphia, Charles Drew Elementary School was closed, and late last year on the same 14-acre property, University City High School was closed. Now Drexel University, in its continued expansion, could develop the property for mixed use, according to a bill recently introduced by Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell.

The basic conflict between those who want to preserve and those who want to erect anew is age-old in real estate. Historical architecture can hearken back through time and enrich a community's culture, while economic circumstances can also demand new enterprises and a change in scenery.
