Pennsylvania firm inks lease deal

A Pennsylvania logistics company will move into a large warehouse still under construction in an up-and-coming business park.

The Pittsburgh-based company has signed a commercial lease that will allow it to expand the size of its distribution center. The firm specializes in work serving the food and restaurant industries, and it will wind up with more than twice the space than it currently has.

The new distribution center, in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, will be 400,000 square feet. The company could relocate there next year, perhaps by early fall or late summer, according to a representative of the builder.

The CEO of the logistics company called the location "ideal" to serve its needs.

The lease agreement on file says the lease runs through 2034. The warehouse will be at the corner of Antrim Commons and Armada drives.

The warehouse is in the midst of a new business park, with local legislators helping in its development by assisting in bringing in federal transportation funds, low-interest financing, tax abatements and a grant for public infrastructure construction. For example, money will help to fix a vital interchange.

The company's new warehouse will have direct access by rail, with Norfolk Southern's intermodal freight facility scheduled to open early next year.

An executive with the builder said that the intermodal railway has assisted in attracting tenants. He said there are a number of deals the developer is looking to complete.

When complete, the new business park could be filled with tenants that could bring in 2,000 jobs. A sketch of plans indicates that the park will include both warehouses and industrial buildings, as well as retail and commercial tenants.

The business park is an ideal example of how coordination between public officials and private industry can work together to create positive change in community development that benefits businesses and rejuvenates communities.
