New bills aim to revamp property tax collection in Philadelphia

Legislation has been drafted to makeover Pennsylvania's collection laws for property tax delinquency. The real estate bill's author, state Rep. Chris Ross (R., Chester), wants to streamline the way municipalities throughout Pennsylvania handle tax-challenged property owners.

West Chester officials up in the air over courthouse sale

A piece of government-held real estate in West Chester has been up for sale since last year, but the crippled housing market has made the sale of the old, empty courthouse complex unwieldy for local officials. The Chester County board of commissioners has two interested bidders and wants public input on the property acquisition.

State tells Philadelphia property values, taxes are wrong

The $487 million that the city of Philadelphia plans to receive from real estate taxes could be in jeopardy with new information from the State Tax Equalization Board. The state's property-tax watchdog evaluates each county's assessment of real estate and found that Philadelphia has expensive discrepancies.

Civic groups dispute land line in Northwest Philadelphia

Two Pennsylvania civic organizations are each claiming that the land between Scotts Lane and Route 1 in Philadelphia is part of their own community. The Philadelphia City Planning Commission is listening to both sides.
